Terry Caelli

Terry Caelli's interests lie in Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence and their applications to intelligent sensing, image understanding and environmental management. He is Director of Queensland Laboratory of National ICT Australia (NICTA). He is a Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (FIAPR) Fellow of the Institute for Electronic and Electrical Engineers (FIEEE). He is a Convocation Medalist from the University of Newcastle.

Since the early 1970’s Professor Caelli’s interests have been in both human and machine vision and the application of research in these areas to health and environmental problems. He has spent 15 years in North America university and research institutes, has been a DFG Professor, Germany, Killam Professor of Science, the University of Alberta as well as having held senior positions in Australian at the University of Melbourne and Curtin University of Technology. He has served on the editorial boards of journals including IEEE:PAMI, Pattern Recognition and numerous international conference committees in both human and machine vision.  

He returned from Canada to join NICTA in 2004.
